Happy business birthday to me! I can’t believe it’s been five years! I can honestly say it’s been a great five years, and I’m very proud of myself for getting here.
People often ask how long I’ve been in the industry and what lead me to become self-employed…. so here goes!
I did my Beauty NVQ Levels 2 & 3 at college and finished in 2005, and then went on to work in salons and spa hotels. The last couple of places I was employed at were Spa London in Swiss Cottage and Teds Beauty Spot in the Ted Baker store near St Paul’s. It was there I made some great Ted Baker friends, and I still see them for drinks, lunches and of course manicures all these years later.
I worked there for around 18 months and loved just doing nails. At first, I was worried I’d get bored of doing the same thing day in day out, but how wrong I was as I absolutely loved going to work every day!
My bestie Joey was also in the beauty industry, and the place she worked at was looking for someone to run an independent nail bar in the salon, so I jumped at the chance! I handed my notice in at Ted and had a few weeks off to get myself ready for the big jump into the world of being self-employed. However, after a few days, the salon owner decided she didn’t want a nail bar in the spa! At the time I was devastated, but in hindsight, it was all for the best, and we both now realise it’s the best thing that could have happened! Being in the salon meant although I was self-employed I would still have to answer to someone, and I wouldn’t be able to work the days/hours I wanted. So off I went on my own, fully mobile and answering the calls of nails in need of a good mani!
It’s taken a while to get where I am, but I couldn’t be happier! I met Matt (who is now my husband) while I was working in Teds Beauty Spot and he has supported me the whole time, he has created my website, knows all about SEO, and taught me all about social media and how it’s great for my business. He has been a significant part of the success of Nails by Natalie Rose!
Five years on and I’m not only doing manicures in homes but also going into offices to do lunch break manicures. I get to do fab hen parties which are my fav as they’re always so much fun! Plus I’ve done nails for adverts and press events. Also, as well as my amazing group of regular clients, I’ve recently started building up my client base in Colindale where we just bought our first home 🙂
As I said, it’s been an incredible five years, and I can’t wait to see what the next five years will bring! As a big thank you for being amazing clients, just mention my fifth birthday, and I’ll give you a 10% off your next treatment in April or May.
Love you guys!
